Burning
California almond growers
in the San Joaquin Valley are subject to state rules regarding open-air
burning of trees and prunings. General agricultural
burning in the San Joaquin Valley was phased out July 1, 2005. Burning orchard
removals ended July 1, 2007; and harvested prunings cannot be burned after July
1, 2010.
The ban on
agricultural burning reduces emissions of a number of air pollutants including
PM10, PM2.5 and NOx.
